In locoregional deep hyperthermia, the body is subjected to restricted local overheating. The overheating is concentrated on the affected organ or tissue. The organism is thus subjected to less stress than with whole body hyperthermia, because the healthy tissue is not affected. This is also relevant for the comparison with traditional radiation methods and cytostatic treatments: the organism copes better with local deep hyperthermia.
Because tumor cells are invisible for the immune system they can be made visible using local hyperthermia under the influence of heat. This way, hyperthermia can make chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy more effective. In isolated cases, previously ineffective chemotherapy or radio therapy can be made effective in combination with hyperthermia.
Cancer cells form “heat shock proteins” under hyperthermia conditions; these proteins appear on the surface of the degenerated cells. Now the body’s own immune system detects these proteins as extraneous cells, giving a clear indication for the immune cells to fight the cancer cells. Healthy cells do not form heat shock proteins and are not dammaged in the process maing hyperthermia an effective weapon against cancer.
During the treatment, which lasts between 60 and 90 minutes, the patient lies comfortably in a pleasantly heated treatment bed. Modulable short waves flow through the healthy tissue via an applicator and accumulate exclusively in the tumor area. High temperatures of between 42°C and 44 °C are reached. This temperature damages the cancer cells.
In our office, locoregional deep hyperthermia takes place in the same beneficial treatment situation as whole body hyperthermia. Once again, the patient receives comprehensive care in a healing atmosphere.
We have successfully used locoregional deep hyperthermia for peritoneum metastases, relapses in the region of various organs, particularly the female breast, for brain tumors, tumors in the stomach region, prostate-tumors and inoperable tumors.

In our experience, locoregional deep hyperthermia is particularly effective for inoperable tumors and metastases, and for frequently recurring tumor types. However, it is also used for limited tumor onsets. We have successfully used local hyperthermia in our clinic for breast cancer, sarcomas, skin tumors as melanomas, bone metastases as well as carcinomas of the lung, the stomach, pancreas, the gallbladder and kidneys.
